With his suggestion of planting trees to support an environmental protection project, Olaf Layh (Haulotte Germany - Eschbach) had put forward the idea of supporting an association for the promotion of biodiversity.

This project, which is in keeping with our values of respect and solidarity, became a reality with the Haulotte Group’s commitment alongside “Cœur de Forêt” (https://www.coeurdeforet.com/), an international association that works to save forests and the populations who depend on them.

A look back on the operations carried out by “Cœur de Forêt”…

The 2020-2021 campaign plans to plant 40,000 trees of various species on Flores Island, in Indonesia.

Every year, the inhabitants of Flores Island resort to slash-and-burn to increase the proportion of agricultural land and flush out game. Today, this deforestation is significantly increasing, and is now reaching areas of rich biodiversity. Against this background, the Cœur de Forêt association has been conducting reforestation and awareness-raising campaigns since 2014. Its action has already enabled 280,000 trees to be replanted!

Supported by industry-leading partners like Haulotte, the association initiated a new reforestation operation in 2020 set to run until the end of 2021: 40,000 trees of 18 different species, some of which, like sandalwood, are in danger of extinction. These planting operations are part of environmental development or preservation plans:

  • safeguarding areas of freshwater springs
  • protecting biodiversity
  • fertilizing the soil
  • experimental reforestation

Cœur de Forêt also supports the agro-ecological transition of producers to encourage sustainable development on Flores Island. For example the association supervised the installation of an experimental site for vanilla cultivation in 2020.

Let’s hope that the commitment of the Group, and of all of us, will enable the Cœur de Forêt projects to be successfully completed.
